    Banreys Farm Cookies Kush

Barney's Farm love a good Indica so it comes as no surprise that their most anticipated strain release for 2015 was Cookies Kush.

Barney's have once again struck the perfect balance much like they did with their highly acclaimed Critical Kush. Strength, yield, size and a complex and complete experience on the palette.

    Available Here!

    Other Barney's Farm Strain Releases

With the majority of the cannabis world focusing on this amazing new strain it’s easy to forget that Barney's have also released some other delectable seeds for you to get your hands on.

Auto Blue Cheese - Everyone’s favourite Blue Cheese now ready in only 65-75 days.

  • Clark French on medical cannabis around the world – California

In my latest series of articles for Freedom Seeds I am going to look into and explain a little about medical cannabis in other countries and how patients live and get their medicine. I'm lucky enough to have travelled to quite a few of the places I am going to write about.

The first is possibly my favourite place in the world to be and is of real significance as the first US state to legalise medical cannabis in 1996. California has much meaning to me personally as it is where I went and had access to cannabis oil in 2011. This helped to improve my quality of life greatly and inspired me to give the fight for legal medical cannabis my all once back here in the UK.
Clark French Grass RootsMedical Marijuana CaliforniaCalifornia Proposition 215 passed on the 5th of November 1996, with 56% in favour and allowed for medical cannabis patients to get legal access to cannabis in the state of California. When I went I got to meet many patients and activists who had campaigned for this and even went out with the San Jose Harborside team to protest against a new city ordnance which taxed the dispensaries and essentially meant patients had to pay more for their medicine.

While in California I spent much time with the main author of proposition 215 Dennis Peron. Dennis has a lovely little guest house which myself and Dale (my cousin and GrassRoots film maker) stayed in last year. The first time I met Dennis in 2011 I asked him for some advice and he said “just get on with it” something which I feel I have definitely taken to heart. Dennis is most definitely one of my main inspirations as an activist, he is such a genuine person that so many feel very at ease and comfortable in his presence. Dennis was kind enough to be interviewed by Dale for GrassRoots and we are excited for its release in 2015. A little longer than it was meant to take but it will be worth it!

Clark French - Golden Gate Bridge

During my stay in California the thing which struck me the most was how it really isn’t good enough. Yes it is inspiring to see happen and yes there are so many great things and of course they are so much further than we are in the UK. However it is not fairly distributed, the fact you have to pay for your doctor’s recommendation leaves many on a low income out of the loop and I feel that this is unfair. So personally although I love California, I still think there is still quite a way to go so that all people are treated equally as patients no matter their socioeconomic group.

Having said that for many patients Proposition 215 did and still does provide them the ability to grow their own cannabis with many cities putting a limit of 99 plants. It is 99 as over 100 federal minimum mandatory sentencing comes into play and no one needs that. For myself I think 99 plants is a good amount, this would allow for a patient to have a variety of medicine and generally mean that a patient can always guarantee to keep themselves well stocked with medicine. Many counties have smaller limits but where I was staying in San Francisco the limits were 99.

In my opinion the best thing about California is the openness the market has created to so many products. I wasn’t really expecting to see just so many things made from medical cannabis. The industry is huge and really I, like many others in the UK, want to play a part in this and be involved in this industry legally in the UK. Which is of course why we fight on and are trying to end prohibition so that we can all medicate legally without unwanted intervention from the law. That not even mentioning the medicine and how good the concentrates and flowers really are.

My final point is safety first and regulations, California now has many cannabis testing labs and this is necessary for a patient to be able to titrate the right amount and to know exactly what is in the medicine they are taking. Not only this, they test for residual chemicals from growing, fungus and mould too. They make sure that the medicine is quality and that is very, very important when giving medical cannabis to patients. I feel like I time travel to the future when I visit California and I'm more determined than ever to help to make this a reality in the UK.

  • Midnight Express - Freedom Seeds new strain

    Freedom Seeds Midnight Express

Freedom Seeds Midnight ExpressAs midnight struck on New Year’s Eve we raised a toast to 2015 and our new strain – Midnight Express. After a lot of work and development we couldn’t be more excited or proud of this new autoflowering addition to the Freedom Seeds range.

Last year, as well as releasing our groundbreaking FreeBD strain, we launched Purple Express. That strain introduced a more colourful shade of purple to our selection for the first time. With Midnight Express we take it a step further - the dark colour is what immediately sets this strain apart.

Parts of the leaves and buds are such a deep purple they could almost be black. Add to this the coating of glistening trichromes and it’s no surprise many have likened it to a night sky full of stars.

It’s not all about appearances though and the substance of the genetics of Midnight Express is also impressive. Including something of a role call of classic strains, she is mostly indica, with influences of Citral Kush, Blueberry and a dash of White strain for the star dust.

As a third generation auto flowerer you can expect a plant reaching heights of up to 110cm. With generous yields of up to 550gr/m2 per plant expected in anything as quick as 55-60 days.

Although the genetics definitely lean towards the indica the high is more sativa which is another pleasant surprise.

We proudly give you Midnight Express – the clue’s in the name.

Available now in a 5 seed pack for the price of just £16.95.

  • Humboldt Seeds - new seed bank at Freedom Seeds

Humboldt Seed Organization 707 HeadbandAs 2014 draws to a close we’re really pleased to announce the arrival of a new seed bank here at Freedom Seeds – Humboldt Seed Organization. It’s not often we announce the addition of a new seedbank, and with good reason. We pride ourselves on stocking the best seed banks available and we don’t just invite anyone into the Freedom family. Quality is the name of the game and we feel that Humboldt Seeds fit very nicely within that remit.

There are certain areas that have become synonymous with the cannabis industry in the United States, one of these is the Northern Californian region known as the Emerald Triangle. The region comprises three counties: Mendocino County, Trinity County and of course Humboldt County. The cultivation of marijuana in Humboldt has been a way of life for many since the 1960s – when numerous hippy communities sprang up in the area.

Humboldt Seed Organization have brought together a collection of some of the best strains available from various breeders and collectors around the world. Not only have Humboldt Seeds selected great genetics though, they also place a keen focus on the use of organic techniques in the production of their strains. They believe that through the use of such techniques they can produce healthier and better tasting strains and we completely agree.

    Humboldt Seeds Lemon Kush Headband

As you may expect Humboldt Seeds shows a heavy bias towards American favourites in their range. Classics old and new such as OG Kush, Green Crack, Chemdawg and Trainwreck are joined by some truly glorious crosses such as Lemon Kush Headband, Sour Blueberry and Pineapple Skunk. They’ve also worked on some killer collaborations – working with renowned breeder Ras D from Emerald Triangle to produce Lost Coast OG. And perhaps even more interestingly Kief Sweat and Cypress Hill front man B-Real to create strains such as Dr Greenthumb’s Em Dog, Dedoverde Haze and Ewe-2. As Cypress Hill would say - when this shit goes down you better be ready!

And that’s not all – we’ve got another seed bank lined up for release in the next week. Curious? You should be! Keep your eyes on the Freedom Seeds pages for more details.

  • Freedom Seeds FreeBD review by Clark French

    Clark French

Last month Clark French wrote a great article about our very own auto feminised strain Smokey Bear. With Clark's background as an MS patient and founder of the United Patients Alliance we thought he'd be the perfect person to review our latest strain - FreeBD. We produced this CBD rich strain in collaboration with the CBD Crew and we're pretty proud of the results - read on to find out what Clark thought.

Long elongated sativa looking buds with quite a light pastel green colour, lots of trichomes. The buds are small but very dense. There is a nice coating of pistils coming out of each calyx, the calyxes themselves are packed in and not too bulky, they all blend together rather than standing out in foxtails.

    Freedom Seeds FreeBD

The first thing you smell is a sickly sweetness, almost how parmesan cheese smells but not quite, there is also a deep and rich almost skunky earthiness. It is quite an interesting smell and one which remind me of some of the buds I got to sample in California. One strain in particular that I was given a sample of at the San Francisco Cannabis Cup in 2011. The smell is one of those things where you wouldn't quite believe it was cannabis that smelt that way!

The taste is really good, the earth is really great along with the sweetness makes FreeBD a very tasty strain to medicate with. The earthiness in the low end of the flavour is reminiscent of some skunk strains I have tried and the sickly sweet higher notes definitely comes through in the taste but is more pronounced in the aroma, as with anything the taste is more definable in my Arizer Solo. In general though I'm quite happy with the taste.

Now here is the most interesting bit about FreeBD and that is the fact that it is a CBD rich strain. Now I got to know lots about CBD in 2011 in California and ever since trying it I have been actively seeking it. CBD is great for many people with MS. As you can see from the various anti-cannabis propaganda CBD is actually a immunosuppressive. Now in the media scare stories this is touted as a bad thing and an excuse to justify why cannabis possession is a crime. What they forget to say however is that for people with autoimmune diseases this is EXACTLY what we need. My other options for immunosuppression is a drug called Tysabri. Which is a form of chemo and infused every month (I hate needles) it has the chance of putting me into a coma which I will never wake up from and by not taking it I save the NHS tens of thousands of pounds every year!

That is not the only benefit of CBD, a quick browse of our cannabinoid table shows CBD to be a highly medicinal cannabinoid. But not only that many of my friends without serious illnesses generally LOVE the effects of CBD rich cannabis. As I understand it CBD block the cannabinoid receptors meaning that THC uptake is much smoother and meaning that the effects last for a lot longer.

A lovely tasty and effective strain, generally I want more

  • Clark French joins Freedom Seeds as guest blogger

    Clark French

Last month Clark French wrote a great strain review strain review for Freedom Seeds. Since then we've had the opportunity to meet Clark and are really pleased to say that he has agreed to join us on a full time basis in writing a series of blog posts. We're really excited to hear Clark's take on everything cannabis and we hope you are too. If you can think of anything you'd like him to write about please comment below and we'll see what we can do. So without further ado it's over to Clark...

    Introduction to Freedom Seeds

Clark French at the Home OfficeHello cannabis connoisseurs, enthusiasts and anyone who is generally interested in this most beneficial plant. My name is Clark French and I'm very pleased to welcome you to my first ever blog for Freedom Seeds.

As any introduction goes I will start this off by explaining a little bit about what I do and generally why Freedom Seeds thought it would be a good idea for me to speak to you through the medium of their website. I was diagnosed with MS in 2010 when I was in my final year of university, to cut a long story short (and believe me I could talk for days about this) I found out that cannabis really helped me and have been campaigning to see a change in the law ever since.

  • Freedom Seeds Smokey Bear review by Clark French

    Clark French

We’re really pleased to have Clark French on board for this special blog post. For those of you that don’t know - Clark is an MS patient and cannabis activist. He has worked with NORML UK and just this year founded United Patients Alliance - a group founded to represent the interests of medical cannabis patients in the UK. In this guest blog post Clark gives a really thorough strain review on our very own Smokey Bear.

I was lucky enough to get my hands on some buds & concentrates of Freedom Seeds' Smokey Bear so I thought it would be more than appropriate to write a review of what I thought of it. The Smokey Bear is a Jack Herer, AK47 and a Ruderalis to gain the auto flowering trait.

The buds look gorgeous, really dense and trichome covered. The trichome content it actually really impressive especially under the microscope. You wouldn't be able to tell that this was an autoflowering strain from looking at it. The greens of the bud structure are quite dark and pastel, there is some hints of purple on some of the tips. The shatter is Qwiso and a nice constituency and colour it has a slightly orange tint to it.
